As a Database Developer, you’ll be a technical problem-solver and will take responsibility for new and existing databases. This will involve carrying out tests to develop them from their initial planning stages and gathering data to ensure that the database functions to its optimum potential.

In regards to the working environment, you could be part of an agency team or work in-house, directly for one company.

Specifically, as a SQL Database Developer, you could be part of a data communications team, using strong MS SQL Server 2008 skills including: T-SQL, SSAS, SSIS, MS Excel, database administration/backup, replication etc, Scripting (T-SQL, Powershell, VBScript, JScript, C#), integrating various paid/open data sources via real-time API or batch feed, XML technologies including document creation and querying using XPath, writing and using XSL transformations and creating/implementing XML Schemas. 

Your core duties may include providing secure, robust and optimised data systems to the agency by way of using your expert database development skills. You’ll be monitoring and maintaining scheduled back-end processes, ensuring robust output is supplied within agreed timescales. Other duties include systems modelling and integration, optimisation, introducing and maintaining robust DBA processes with expert DB development and testing.

At an entry level, junior/graduate Database Developer professionals on average will be earning between £18K-£28K. At the mid-level you’d be looking to earn £28K-£45K and seniors would be looking to earn £45K+.
