One of Bristol’s most successful and innovative tech start-ups has been growing at a steady rate with more success year upon year, now with recent investment they are looking to bulk out their tech team including a need for a DevOps Engineer. This role is predominately Digital Ocean but the ideal candidate will also have worked within AWS and GCP. What skills you’ll need Strong technical skills administering Linux-based infrastructure. Proven skills within cloud-based services such as AWS and GCP. Competent in a scripting language such as Python, PHP, Ruby or even Node.js. Highly experienced with setting up and maintaining load balancers, firewalls and DNS. Understanding and practice of security fundamentals. Be able to manage databases but mainly MySQL or similar. Desirably you would’ve worked within Continuous Integration before but not essential. What you’ll be doing You will be working within a rapidly growing team supporting their roadmap in becoming a global platform. Your role will be focusing on building out their DigitalOcean based platform.     Work with DevOps on an AR platform. Modern stack: Java 8, Linux, Node, Bash, Docker, AWS, Cucumber, NoSQL. Great office space and people, free on-site parking. An innovative, high tech business in Bristol with 30 people is looking to take on a back-end developer (with DevOps experience) to come in and own the development in that area. It will mainly been maintaining the current systems with the view to build them something new and exciting. You’ll be working with a great team in a great space with some inspiring modern-age entrepreneurs.   What experience you’ll need You will have worked with Java 8. Considerable industry experience working in various sectors would be ideal. Good working knowledge of web services and building RESTful APIs. Experience with NoSQL (MongoDB), and SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL). Good OS level understanding for server deployment – Linux, bash, python/Ruby. Cloud infra knowledge (preferably AWS). Working knowledge of Docker. Experience with JavaScript libraries would be advantageous. Ideally a good understanding to software testing, bug tracking, event logging, including BDD (e.g. Cucumber). CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Bamboo etc.). Ability to take ownership of development and hit the ground running. Any experience with robots would be a great little bonus to have. What you’ll be doing Mainly using some of the latest Java versions you will be working on their current back-end systems with some of the latest and most modern technologies. This will include a variety of DevOps work with Docker and some use of continuous integration and deployment using opensource software such as Jenkins. They have an AR platform with a range of possible web products they wish to integrate and grow, so whilst working on the current platform of which will be more ‘maintenance’ you will have the chance to create something new and exciting. You’ll be bringing your meticulous engineering skills to work closely with the CTO in order to prepare this company for their next exciting journey this year. You will take responsibility for securing infrastructure and applications within the AWS cloud, working closely with various product design teams to input functional/non-functional requirements across multiple projects. Your team work with cloud, research and embedded engineers to understand and deal with threats facing the IoT cloud, as well ensuring secure coding practices across the business. You will coordinate security testing to assure vulnerability is kept at a minimum, as well as providing regular risk assessments & recommendations for the wider programme. DevOps Engineer needed to help in setting up servers, running penetration tests, security tests and writing scripts to automate processes for a well-respected digital specialist in Bristol. Working alongside their permanent DevOps Engineer you’ll be working in the tech team to help provide a seamless service for a number of key clients. What skills you’ll be needing Linux systems administration. AWS and multi-node server environments. Tools such as Ansible, Vagrant, Docker etc. IP based networking and ACL based firewalls. Strong scripting experience, PHP is a bonus. GIT version control. Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases. What you’ll be doing The DevOps Engineer will mostly help to set up servers and write scripts for automation as part of a small team. You will assist with application deployments for ongoing updates and new deployments as well as ensuring security best practice for infrastructure and applications. They have a predominantly Linux based environment with some AWS and you’ll need to have a good all-round knowledge to be able to implement and maintain a CI pipeline.
