Full-Stack Ruby Developers

— Great learning & development opportunities

  • Join a local thriving technical studio with 5 other developers.
  • Dynamic agency, work with Ruby, JavaScript, AWS, Ansible, Heroku etc.
  • Flexible/remote working, amazing work and personal development opportunities.

A local self-funded agency that turns ideas into bespoke digital products has been successfully running for over 8 years with some long lasting clients and are now looking to take the next step in growing the team. They are on the lookout for full-stack developers to work on greenfield applications mainly with Ruby and JavaScript, it’s a great opportunity for someone who wants to get involved with a variety of projects for some great start-ups, learn & develop and have a great work/life balance.

What skills you’ll be needing

  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React or Vue is a nice extra).
  • Wordpress.
  • Ruby/On Rails experience is very desirable but can be taught.
  • PHP/Laravel would be beneficial if you don’t have Ruby.
  • AWS would be nice to have.
  • SaSS is a bonus.
  • Ansible.
  • Multi-disciplined.
  • Codeship.
  • Agile experience would be desirable.
  • Team player.

What you’ll be doing

As a full-stack developer you will be responsible for the development and release of both front and back-end code. The day-to-day development language is Ruby but they also maintain some PHP codebase (mostly Wordpress), with the JavaScript side of things they use whatever is best for the job whether it’s using React or Vue libraries or possibly no library at all. Overall there is around 12 codebases to maintain for different clients so you need to be confident at switching from one project to another. There will be lots of time to learn new skills on the job by working with other developers and taking whatever courses necessary. You will have the chance to work with any new clients, implement new technologies and train/mentor junior developers once you have enough experience.

What you’ll get in return for your talents

As this agency is boutique and forward-thinking you will be given lots of flexibility with emphasis on personal development. You will have lots of learning opportunities, not just tech, 1 week per quarter you can learn whatever you want, literally, if that is knitting or painting, or leaning a new language! You will also have a personal goal for the year which they support you to achieve, this could be finishing early every day to spend more time with the family, learn an instrument, or learn to speak at conferences – whatever you like. Alongside these rare personal benefits you will get a minimum 25 days holiday, you may be allowed up to 30 or more if you achieve good results. You will also have a pension scheme, life insurance, conference budget, remote/flexible working, nice working environment, your own kit provided (including a 27 inch monitor). You will also get to work with some great people who are well networked in the Bristol tech community.
