A market-leading utilities provider are going through a rapid period of growth and are looking for PHP Developers to join their team. The business specialise in the provision of bill sharing, broadband & utility services; they’ve moved from strength to strength over the last 10 years and now provide shared living for over 150,000 people, as well as supporting over 300,000 students with connectivity & utility services across the country. With lovely offices in Clevedon, currently there are 5 developers internally with scope to get to 8 in the near future. Please note that the wider salary range is due to the business considering applicants at different levels of seniority. 

What you’ll be doing

Joining the product development team and reporting into the Head of Product, you will take responsibility for the design & implementation of various web pages as well as integrating them with the company’s core systems. There are various systems to look after including pre-registration, onboarding & user portals, so adaptability is key. This role is full-stack though more back-end leaning; you will work closely with the product team to ensure all business needs are met on-time, mainly focusing on the technical aspect but occasionally involving yourself in designing UX solutions for any new & existing requirements across various systems. The company are either looking for self-starters who are willing to progress and learn new technologies, or a senior developer who is confident taking ownership of their own team and supporting/mentoring junior developers as the business grows.

What experience you’ll need

  • Significant knowledge of PHP 5-7+ (OO, web based) and Laravel MVC. 
  • Good understanding of SOAP/REST web services. 
  • Proven knowledge of HTML, CSS, Sass, JavaScript and ideally one of its libraries.
  • Experience in a Linux environment & knowledge of MySQL. 
  • Awareness of BDD/TDD principles & the “DevOps” culture of working. 
  • Any understanding of Python/Perl would be highly beneficial. 
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment.

You’ll be leading a team of 5 including a contract resource, taking responsibility for technical direction and driving continuous improvement in an Agile development approach. It’s expected that you will advocate “DevOps” practices for the delivery of various digital platforms, using TDD principles with an automated deployment pipeline.
