A rapidly growing tech start-up, based in Bristol, is looking for a number of technical staff to join their highly talented team. One of these requirements is for a Ruby Developer. Despite having been established only just over a year ago, theyve already achieved some admirable successes including features in multiple major publications, taking a key role in a government trade delegation, securing a healthy revenue stream with multiple clients and theyve built a really impressive advisory board made up of industry experts. Currently a team of 18, they have ambitious growth plans and within the development team, they value passion for new technology, ingenuity and collaboration.

What experience you'll need

  • You'll have proven commercial experience working with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, RESTful APIs and object-oriented design.
  • There are team members that focus on FE development but youll need at least a basic understanding of JavaScript (ReactJS) as youll be working closely together.
  • Experience with AWS would be a bonus.
  • HTML, CSS, Git.
  • On the softer side, they are looking for developers with a real interest in picking up new skills/technologies.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for the back-end development of the platform & applications, based around Ruby, within a talented development team. If you have further FE development skills with JavaScript (ReactJS) then youll be able to put those to good use as well if interested. You'll develop your knowledge of the industry and use that within planning for further features and applications. You will be working in a team made up of a mixture of permanent staff and contractors, with a real collaborative focus. This is a ground-breaking product that they are taking to market and so youll be proving feedback and ideas for improvement that will help guide the future of the business.

What you’ll be doing You’ll work on a combination of national and localised SEO campaigns, starting by formulating SEO strategies for the agency and each client based on their overall objectives. You’ll produce SEO optimised content, perform technical and content audits, analyse landing pages, cover keyword research and continually feedback on these elements to evolve strategies. You’ll also need to run A/B split and mutli-variate testing on both the agency and client’s websites to consistently optimise onsite user journeys. Tracking, measuring and reporting on the SEO and CRO performance of both the agency and its client’s will also be really key. You’ll own client reporting dashboards, define key performance indicators, conversion funnels and work closely with the account management team to shape and improve reporting processes. There are Account Managers internally who will liaise directly with clients, however there will be an open line of communication between you and clients directly as and when required. This balance allows you to manage your time effectively between different accounts, but also gives you the necessary detailed information. It’s a brand-new role for the agency so you’ll have the opportunity to really make it your own! What experience you’ll need Either from a pure SEO/Content focused role, or a broader digital marketing position where SEO and Content are key elements of your day to day. Familiar with a range of SEO tools, ideally Google Analytics, Search Console, Tag Manager, SEM Rush and Screaming Frog. Experience in web analytics, A/B testing and other testing metrics. There’s an on-going digital transformation across the business and there are some really exciting projects in the pipeline. There's a real emphasis on helping developers grow their skills and there will be support for training / courses and to learn new tech and best practice. Please note that the wider salary range is due to the client considering multiple levels of applicants, from mid-level to leadership.  What skills you’ll be needing You’ll need a good amount of experience working in a mid to leadership level development position. You’ll need strong skills with HTML5, CSS3, LESS and JavaScript, with Angular/React experience needed for upcoming projects. Any experience with TypeScript, ES6+ or Redux would also be beneficial. Knowledge of front-end build tools such as Grunt, Gulp & Webpack. You'll have an appreciation of the importance of design & customer experience. You will have worked in an Agile based environment previously, ideally Scrum. What you’ll be doing Your main task will be working as a mid - senior member of the Front-End team, currently 3 developers strong with 3 project scrum teams across the wider digital team. You’ll be helping to grow the company’s digital and online presence, predominately working on their websites and getting involved with continued project work based around the current digital transformation work.
