Senior Java Developer

I'm working with a market-leading developer of drones and unmanned flight vehicles to look for skilled Java Developers to join their cutting-edge engineering team to deliver complex UAV solutions to clients in the maritime & aerospace sectors. The company is going through a real period of growth over the coming months, with unmanned technology being among the fastest growing industries, there's a real focus on driving their products forward. Initially you’ll be joining the business on a fully remote basis with the view to open up a Bristol office in the near future. Working alongside extremely talented multi-disciplined engineers you’ll be developing your skillset in a rapidly evolving and innovative industry.  

What skills you’ll be needing

  • Proven hands-on development experience using Java 8. Experience of Java Swing/Java FX is desirable but is by no means essential.
  • Good understanding of software refactoring & maintenance best practices.
  • Experience of regression testing and test automation frameworks.
  • Be well-versed with software configuration management.
  • Previous experience leading/managing a team would be a plus. 
  • Experience of Unified Modelling Language (UML) & related tools such as Enterprise Architect would be beneficial.
  • Experience working in Scrum/Agile environments would also be a bonus.
  • Willingness to obtain BPSS clearance.

What you’ll be doing

Joining a collaborative team of highly technical engineers, your focus will be to lead the design, implementation and testing of Java software to support product research & development. You will contribute to exciting new and existing projects, developing applications to support flight & simulation activities or innovating existing ground control systems while gaining knowledge of leading autonomous systems. Following Agile methodology, the company operates on a flat hierarchical structure meaning roles are ever evolving and you’ll have the opportunity to get involved with all areas development.  You'll use your technical expertise to mentor more junior members of the team and ensuring software best practises are adhered to. In this role you will be working with some truly cutting-edge technology so a passion for innovation is key!
