A well-established and rapidly growing eCommerce business is looking for two Senior .Net Developers to join their team to facilitate their next major period of growth, taking them from £10m annual turnover to £100m. Having achieved 40% growth last year over the business and placing themselves firmly on the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 list, they are targeting a further 60% growth this year. They already have a reputable brand name, having won the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2016. They have a regular customer base of 150,000 and an extra 100,000 unique visits per month but this is nothing compared to their total target market of over 5 million customers currently living abroad, meaning there is an astounding amount of room for future growth. This is the chance to be part of something special and they are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to find a company they can grow with over the next few years.

What experience you’ll need

The current bespoke eCommerce system in operation is built on a Microsoft Tech stack with ASP and SQL Server.  Whilst it's performing well, the next stage of company growth requires Senior Developers capable of rebuilding it from the ground up with tech including Microsoft Azure, .NET MVC (C#), SQL Server / SQL Azure, Azure Web Apps, SOAP/XML and REST/JSON. To be able to collaborate effectively with the Lead Front-End Dev, you’ll need a core understanding of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript & jQuery.  Crucially, you will have experience of building a complex eCommerce system from scratch or very close to it.  The softer skills you’ll need will be good communication, adaptability, organisation, an analytical mind and the ability to work collaboratively in a small team, sharing ideas and staying focussed on the common goal.

What you’ll be doing

With all the previous development work having been done in-house, the Tech Director is now looking to step away from hands-on programming and it will be your place to step up and take responsibility for all the company’s development requirements. Ultimately your key responsibility will be rebuilding the Microsoft tech stack from scratch; architecting and creating a brand new solution that will allow the ability to reach that £100m turnover target. The new eCommerce platform will replace the current system in 18-24 months’ time. After the rebuild is complete, you’ll continue to evolve and add to the functionality of the system, constantly looking to improve customer experience. The focus will initially be on the B2C section of the business but in time, the wholesale section will also be migrated onto the new platform. There is also a bespoke warehouse solution that has been created that has been highly successful. Rebuilding this using the new solution architecture will also be your responsibility, including 3rd party integrations with courier companies and other partners.
