Front-End Contract Developer

— 3 month contract, possible extension

An innovative, high tech business in Bristol with 30 people is looking to take on a Front-End Developer to come in and own the front-end UI and code-base. It will mainly been maintaining what’s in place making some changes here and there, but there will be view to build them something new and exciting. You’ll be working with a great team in a great space with some inspiring modern-age entrepreneurs.  

What experience you’ll need

  • You will have worked with JavaScript frameworks (ideally React).
  • Redux is highly desirable.
  • Considerable industry experience working in various sectors would be ideal.
  • Experience with HTML5 is a must.
  • You’ll be familiar with technologies/version control such as webpack, grunt, git, babel etc.
  • Object prototyping.
  • Any DevOps knowledge would go a long way – Docker, Jenkins, Bamboo etc.
  • Agile experience.
  • The ability to come up with new ideas and work collaboratively with other teams.
  • Any back-end experience would be a bonus but definitely not essential.

What you’ll be doing

Working closely with the web designer and digital designer (along with the back-end developer) you will be the driving force behind the conceptual changes they aim to bring to the web front. You’ll be tasked with defining, implementing and maintaining React components, manage state reducers and actions, integrating with their back-end as well as 3rd party developers. You will be asked to produce some html/jsx and some scss rules along the way. The components will reflect rich semantics and must be reusable and maintainable. It is important as a contractor that you create clean code, there will be permanent people inheriting what you leave behind, it’s critical you show your great work and have a real attention to detail.

What experience you’ll need Proven experience in Python development.  Significant knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible or CloudFormation. Solid understanding of AWS or a similar platform. Experience working in Linux environments, using build tools like GCC/CMake.  Awareness of CI/CD tools such as Gitlab, Bamboo or Jenkins.  Passion or interest in Artificial Intelligence would be useful.  What you’ll be doing  Joining the platform team, you’ll play an integral part in deploying and optimising the business’ self-driving technology onto both cloud-based simulation environments and their own in-house fleet of vehicles. R&D is a massive focus for the company with regular data collection initiatives put in place to ensure continuous testing with the latest software releases. You’ll be involved in developing tools to launch, maintain & monitor their autonomous stack, working closely with other areas of the business (including Machine Learning) to maintain communication & seamless releases.
