— Symfony, ethical business

Salary: £35K - £48K
Location: Bristol
Type: Permanent

  • Ambitious new projects across 2018 and beyond.
  • Ethical work that you can feel genuinely good about at the end of every day.
  • Sociable environment that believes heavily in the importance of staff happiness.

One of Bristol’s most specialised and interesting social enterprises is looking for two PHP Developers to join their team, either mid-weight or senior level. The primary product is already being used by 95%+ of local authorities across the UK and the team is looking to replicate that success in their upcoming projects. They are looking for entrepreneurial individuals, both experienced and with the ability to bring new energy and ideas to the development process. You’ll be working with a talented and committed team, all believing in the work they do to have a positive impact on society.

What experience you’ll need

  • You’ll need commercial experience developing large, high volume MVC web applications, primarily in PHP.
  • Ideally you’ll be experienced with Symfony, however similar (Laravel, etc.) would also be great.
  • Further experience with LAMP stack, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript (jQuery) are all important.
  • You’ll need a strong understanding of OOP principles and design patterns.
  • You’ll also need experience/knowledge of SQL and Git.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be working within a small development team that’s currently looking to grow their capacity, with a view to expand the business into new areas and develop new products. You’ll be working on systems capabilities, user-driven features, data systems and creating innovative new services/products. It’s an Agile development environment and you’ll be encouraged to share your ideas, whether it’s on integration of new technologies or the general direction of the business. There are some exciting plans for 2018 and beyond, all they need now is the development capacity to realise them!

What you’ll get in return for you talents

There’s a strong ethical nature to this work, providing an invaluable service that helps both children and adults. The team has a low turnover rate and they believe that genuinely says all it needs to about what it’s like to work there. There’s a generous salary (up to £48K) provided, as well as 23 days’ holiday and the chance to work in a really friendly, collaborative environment, with regular socials and pub trips, meals, etc. You’ll also be provided with the chance to play with new tech as you see fit and bring that into the business. The offices have been freshly refurbished and when joining, you’ll get the chance to pick your own kit. For anyone that enjoys cycling to work or a lunch time run, there are on-site showers and secure bicycle parking.
