Microbiology Research Scientist

Microbiology Research Scientist

This is an opportunity to join a motivated and talented lab team in a fast-growing drug discovery and development company delivering novel treatments of bacterial infection to address antibiotic resistance. Working within a small, successful lab team this role is primarily lab-based managing your own experimental processes as well as working as part of a team on large projects.

What you'll be doing:

  • Preparation, storage and management (including QC checks) of bacterial and viral stocks.
  • Experiment management, host range screening of bacteriophage, time-kill exposure experiments.
  • Adherence to documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, ensuring that all relevant sample information is recorded accurately, that samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary data are maintained.
  • Maintenance of a daily laboratory book, provision of written reports, and presentation of laboratory activities and data at company meetings.
  • Writing and reviewing protocols and Standard Operating Procedures, as needed.
  • Demonstration of the ability to work both as a key member of a small team, as well as independently.
  • Supervision and training of others, where appropriate.

What experience you will need to apply:



  • Experience and confidence in a category 2 laboratory environment.
  • Batchelor’s Degree in microbiology, biotechnology, or a related biological discipline AND either a Masters degree or relevant experience in a life science discipline such as Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry.
  • Rigorous attention to detail with ability to work as part of a small team as well as manage own time working individually.
  • Experience of aseptic technique and other basic microbiological skills, including experience of bacteriophage, are advantageous.

It would also be beneficial to have a working understanding of plant nutritional requirements and inputs that influence growth and yield.It would be desirable for the successful candidate to have experience with machine maintenance, whether this was based in a lab, field, operation, factory, or alternative. It would be desirable for the successful candidate to have some experience with engineering, such as experience with sensors, computer vision, software, and electronics.You will be very enthusiastic and have exceptional attention to detail.
