Front-End Developer

A market leading eCommerce company in the Cotswolds with products in over 2000 stores are looking for a Front-End Developer to join their team on a fully remote basis*. The business started as a passion project and family business, but it quicky grew into a popular and reputable brand that is proud of its excellent Trustpilot reviews and write-ups in some of the top UK press. They are now one of five brands that sit under a wider group with over a £70m turnover. Despite their growth and record profit levels over the last 2 years, they keep a firm focus on maintaining quality and upholding their commitment to sustainability.

*The company offers full remote working, but you can work from their office if you prefer!

What you’ll be doing

Joining a small team, this is an integral role building website enhancements and building out future projects from scratch that will increase efficiency and change the way their customers shop with them. You’ll work alongside the Lead Developer and a Backend Developer, collaborating with other areas of the business - from marketing to warehousing.

They currently operate multiple B2C, B2B and D2C sites all built on the Shopify Plus platform and custom built solutions. They are about to embark on some major digital transformation projects which you’ll get stuck into, including rebuilds for four eCommerce websites, a B2B trade portal in React and Next.js, an application to manage stock levels and a Click & Collect marketplace.

The skills we’re looking for

  • Strong core experience with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript (ES5/ES6).
  • Experience building quality, responsive layouts.
  • Previous eCommerce experience.
  • Someone who is highly self-motivated with experience working within a cross-functional team.

Bonus points for…

  • React/Next.js experience.
  • Experience with Liquid and/or Shopify API and app development
  • Knowledge or experience of design, UX, accessibility, performance and SEO.
  • Previous use of design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD.
  • CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Gulp, Webpack).

Head office is in the Cotswolds (between Cheltenham and Oxford) although this role can be remote with a monthly trip in to see the team. What skills you’ll be needing Full stack Magento 2 development. Solid web development skills across PHP, Laravel/Symfony, MySQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. CICD DevOps (AWS, scripted containerised deployments). Understanding/awareness of WordPress. Ideally some experience of JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue or Angular). What you’ll be doing As Senior Developer they’re looking for someone with a wide range of skills and experience to come in and help deliver a Magento platform, B2B portal and various software development projects.  Priority for them is to find someone with solid Magento 2, PHP, MySQL, Laravel/Symfony experience alongside some exposure to CI/CD (AWS).  You will be expected to scope and deliver development projects working closely with the Project Manager and eCommerce Manager to test and deploy projects.  You will be responsible for monitoring website performance and it’s integration with WordPress and you’ll be able to introduce unit and regression testing across the codebase.  Further duties will include maintaining the codebase, version control and ensuring that the CI/CD process is efficient.  There is also significant scope for integration and API development as part of a general digital transformation process within the wider business, too. It is envisaged there may also be requirements for additional software development of standalone applications and tooling, so Laravel or Symfony would also be useful. With a strong blue-chip client base and a flexible approach to working, they're fully equipped to deliver projects from home and are happy considering someone on a full remote basis within the UK.  What experience you’ll need Full-Stack development skills, ideally within an agency/project-based environment.  Well-versed in PHP and Laravel (knowing your way around Eloquent).  Comfortable with HTML and CSS (Sass). They're evaluating Tailwind so any experience here could be useful.  JavaScript skills (VanillaJS and preferably VueJS). Any experience with Nuxt would be useful.  Understanding of unit tests and integration testing. You’ll work closely with the design team to ensure visions are aligned and take accountability for suggesting new ideas & different approaches where you see fit. It’s expected that you’ll be able to have complex technical discussions across the full-stack with an ability to structure your work and write clean/reusable code that can be re-deployed by other members of the team.  What you’ll get in return for your experience  They’re based in Cheltenham but happy to offer full remote working, preferably with occasional office trips for big team meetings. Experience using Linux systems as well as Windows. ISTQB certification or similar would be preferred. Familiarity with languages such as C, Python and Bash Scripting. What skills you’ll need Proven background in mobile development using Swift, Cocoa Touch and Objective-C. Experience of Xamarin would be beneficial. Experience with third party frameworks, offline storage, secure enclave, threading, and performance tuning.
