This role will be based in Shropshire until the end of 2022, then there will be the requirement for relocation to Cambridgeshire at the start of 2023.
What you’ll be doing:
The role will be highly varied and encompasses growing, research, facility maintenance and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:
- Assisting with research centre operations, such as trial preparation, growing crops, maintenance of equipment, data collection, record keeping, and liaising with external partners.
- Post-harvest testing, including the assessment of plant physiological function and quality.
- Monitoring of nutrient dynamics and altering nutrient concentrations as required to ensure plant quality and yield are maximised, in-line with a growth plan.
- Sample collection for internal and external analysis, data collection, and reporting from different trial condition variations.
- Daily crop checks and system monitoring, to ensure continued plant health and growth.
- Specialist equipment maintenance, including upkeep and calibration. In addition to this, the monitoring of equipment function and performance to ensure that defects and non-conformities are addressed quickly and safely.
- Adhering to health and safety protocols by assisting with the cleaning, disinfection, and microbial monitoring of system components.
- Contributing to the writing and updating company SOP (Standing Operating Procedures)
- A degree in a relevant subject, such as Biology, Plant Science, or Botany. Alternatively, you will have relevant experience within the horticultural, crop, or agronomy sector, such as a grower or crop background.
- Experience working with plants, in either an analysis, data collection, growth, cultivation, and/or processing capacity. It would also be beneficial to have a working understanding of plant nutritional requirements and inputs that influence growth and yield
- It is not essential but would be desirable for candidates to have some experience with engineering, such as experience with sensors, computer vision, software, and/or electronics.
