A progressive, technology-first business in Bristol are looking for a Senior Software Engineer as they go through a rapid period of growth due to continued success and recent acquisitions. 

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be influential in supporting the integration of several systems, requiring you to work with a combination of serverless technologies.

You will work in a cross-functional team with a focus on integrating products that will impact over a million people across the UK. This involves owning the project from inception, advocating continuous improvement and building new features with scalability and resilience in mind. The role involves building & scaling distributed systems and ensuring that the micro-service platforms are written in the most suitable language for each product (all connected on an event stream) so working autonomously is important. You’ll also be covering things like backlogs, data migrations and other more general development projects, constantly using progressive technology with scope to integrate emerging tech into their wider stack. 

What skills you'll need 

  • 3 years' experience as a Software/Data Engineer or Backend Developer
  • Experience with streaming technologies e.g. Kinesis/Kafka/similar 
  • Scala/Java/Python
  • Understanding of cloud technology; specifically AWS or Google but open to other platforms as well. 
  • Knowledge of deployment automation, CI/CD & containerisation.

You’d be sat in a multi-functional team made up of Developers, Data Analysts, PMs, BAs, System Engineers, supported by wider expertise across IT, Data, Cloud and Security. They’re fully remote for now but would like the team to be in 2-3 days a week once restrictions lift. What skills you’ll need Strategic mindset, ability to translate tech/business requirements into structured test plans. Comfortable working as a sole Tester with autonomy over strategic direction and tech.  Experience in creating automated test pipelines, using automated test platforms like Selenium.  Manual testing capability across web and desktop applications.   Knowledge of RESTful API tools like Postman, SoapUI or similar.  Agile working, using Jira or Azure DevOps for backlogs/documentation.  Understanding of DevOps and working with CI/CD pipelines.  Any understanding of MS/JavaScript tech would be handy, but not essential.  SQL scripting experience would be beneficial, mainly for test validation.  Any knowledge of load/performance testing would be super useful.  What you’ll be doing Joining a talented, cross-functional Agile team, you’ll be their first Tester hire, supporting the Developers to enhance their in-house software apps and databases with a lot of the project base being Greenfield. They’re expecting this person to take control over strategic direction of their testing approach, translating business/tech requirements to implement both manual & automated test solutions, with a lot of autonomy and control over the future direction of the development team. You’ll educate others on best practice, support with identifying and fixing bugs within the application suite, as well as working closely with the leadership team to form formal processes across the team to help shape a more structured approach moving forward. Lots of variety with this role, a self-starting type with drive to be a technical leader would be well-suited.
