DevOps/Integration Engineer (Elasticsearch)

This platform provider has moved from strength-to-strength since launching over 10 years ago and now operate across Europe and the US with plans to double their revenue over the coming years. With continued growth in their Bristol team, they need an ELK Integration/DevOps Engineer to be involved in infrastructure delivery and data store/solution management. It’s a small team of 10-15 people with a lot of talent to offer.

What skills you’ll need

  • Significant experience with Elasticsearch stack and enterprise production. 
  • Proven scripting knowledge using Elasticsearch & Kibana. 
  • Background in a DevOps/Sysadmin role in Linux environments. 
  • Understanding of AWS (EC2, Lambda).
  • Advocate for IaC, automation & CI/CD (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform).
  • Ability to read code, preferably PHP/Node/Python. Coding experience nice to have. 

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for managing ELK data stores & solutions as well as involving yourself in the delivery of a range of infrastructure projects. You’ll look after all aspects of Elasticsearch clusters, acting as a bridge between the development/ops teams and operating in a heavily DevOps-oriented culture. Other responsibilities include providing support to the DevOps team using things like Ansible & other forms of IaC, supporting data requirements and developing Kibana dashboards to provide insight into product operations. Lots of variety and lots of internal/external training with emerging technology constantly being integrated.

What experience you’ll need Proven experience in automation test strategy and technical leadership.  Hands-on experience across manual & automated testing.  Exposure to automation tools like Selenium, Ranorex, SpecFlow, Cucumber or similar. This person will own the implementation of automated testing across their SAP / Salesforce systems which aims to address issues with regression testing; this involves choosing a toolset that aligns with other areas of the business (most use Ranorex/Selenium) before implementing it, then growing a team to maintain things moving forward. The role will initially be a mixture of hands-on and strategic work, but as the team grows you’ll evolve into a more operational role to focus on future improvements, technical leadership and general best practice across the wider function. The Salesforce testing is quite straight forward but the SAP side is more complex due to the volume of business scenarios running through it, so it’s likely this will take up most of your focus in the immediate. Any Open Banking API knowledge desirable.  Skilled in infrastructure/cloud systems architecture with appreciation for security and scalability.  Ability to build and deploy VMs before putting Docker/Kubernetes containers in place.  Automated unit testing knowledge.  Cloud-native development knowledge, flexible on platform.  Understanding of Linux OS and Shell scripting.  Previous technical leadership experience or desire to be a Tech Lead.  What you’ll be doing There are two key aspects to this role; back-end & server app development, as well as building and deploying scalable cloud infrastructure. It would suit a polyglot who enjoys variety and has desire to progress into a Tech Lead / CTO role as the team grows around you. You’ll be building the environment that the data models will live, owning infrastructure/cloud systems architecture with scalability and security in the forefront of your focus, building the VMs and putting containers in place, deciding on security mechanisms, the list goes on. You’ll also be building back-end services that will connect to their mobile app, looking after API connection and integrations, working on Open Banking APIs, taking a logical and data-driven approach to development. One of Bristol’s most exciting start-ups have been given significant funding to help design and build a solution for the energy sector.  This is a ground-breaking piece of work that will involve working closely with data scientists and engineers on something which will help reduce emissions and significant costs to green utilities companies. *Happy with up to 4 days remote work per week, 1 day in their office in Bristol. What’s skills you’ll be needing Proficient understanding of web development markup and client-side scripting, HTML/CSS/JavaScript. Experience with JavaScript libraries/frameworks such as jQuery, React.js, D3.js, GO.js Demonstrable experience of data driven product development within any industry compatible across multiple devices. Data visualisation skills to build creative, informative, performant and interactive visualisations. Familiarity with version control, Git, and collaborative software development best practices. What you’ll be doing As Front-End Developer, you’ll be working with the back-end developers and data science team to build web-based SaaS products.  Core duties will include designing and delivering functional user experiences drawing on UX best practices and creating customised UI elements tailored to user requirements.  They’re very flexible as to the tech to use regarding JavaScript so your steer on this will be important.  The role will also include integrating data, company graphics and branding across the product portfolio as well as the back-end services and cloud platforms.  Working to best practice you will be asked to maintain and continuously improve the front-end of the products as well as occasionally mocking up and prototyping to assist with bids and marketing activities.
