— Start-up with lots of autonomy - first dev hire!
- Remote friendly role, tech agnostic, own the back-end.
- Brand-new, unique app utilising Google AI tools.
- South West top 30 most innovative start-ups with lots of investment.
We’re helping a really cool start-up who are building an app that helps people to learn and fine tune their singing! Following their pre-seed early this year, they’ve built an MVP and are looking to hire a Back-End Engineer to own the server-side of their app. This year they were featured in the South West’s Top 30 most innovative start-ups and won an award for Sustainable Innovation, which has left them in a healthy position to start building out app functionality with various complexities which utilises Google’s AI tech. This is a fantastic opportunity to act as a lead member in driving their product forwards.
What experience you’ll need
- Significant server-side knowledge, preferably TypeScript but open to things like PHP, Python, NodeJS.
- Microservice architecture and extensive API build experience.
- Skilled in unit and functional testing, able to take a TDD approach.
- Cloud-native experience with knowledge of Google Cloud or Firebase. Serverless functions a plus.
- CI/CD and containerisation (Docker).
- Any AI knowledge is advantageous, particularly with Google tech (Tensorflow, Magenta etc.).
What you’ll be doing
As the sole back-end engineer, you’ll be given a lot autonomy and control over technical direction as the business looks to build out the premium functionality of their app before going to market. They plan to use Google’s analytics and machine learning tech to add various complexities which includes a new function that offers analytics into user’s pitch, rhythm and sound. They’re also looking at growing a social network on the app where users can communicate with each other, as well as giving users a chance to upload their own audio later down the line for more enhanced views into where they can improve things. The back-end is still reasonably immature, they’d love to be using TypeScript but are comfortable giving you the reign on back-end tech decisions moving forward (so long as it aligns with product vision!). There are so many plans in the pipeline and you’d be at the forefront of building it all.
What you’ll get in return for your talents
The business are very remote friendly, they’re happy for you to be majority home-based with the odd trip to the studio when required. There are ambitious plans to grow the team so you can expect this role to evolve into more of a Tech Lead position as the business / product progresses, and they’re constantly looking for new and emerging tech to integrate into their stack so you can be sure you’ll working progressively here. They offer a healthy pension, potential equity options and a lot of support with training and development if you’re looking to upskill in certain areas. Friendly team, welcoming culture, really unique product, what’s not to love!
