A very successful start-up with a mission of greening the planet are looking for an Engineering Manager to join one of them in Bristol. They've been featured in Apple’s ‘app of the week’ with over 180,000 registrations having only launched 2.5 years ago. It’s a very exciting time to join, there’s lots of cool tech in the company and a very talented bunch of engineers to be connected to!
What experience you'll need
- Proven experience leading a software engineering team, ideally in a start-up environment.
- Experience in managing customer-facing websites, CMS’s and native mobile apps.
- Ability to provide technical direction and architectural oversight to your team.
- Appreciation for DevOps ways of working; CI/CD, Containers, Automation etc.
- Awareness of cloud-native development.
- Desire to work Agile in a highly collaborative start-up environment.
- Good problem solving skills and ideally a passion for GreenTech/Tech4Good.
The wider tech stack includes React, React Native, Node, TypeScript, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes & Google Cloud.
What you’ll be doing
This role takes ownership of build, delivery and further growth of an online marketplace which aims to make the world a greener place, as well as making improvements to digital visitor experience. With an incredibly talented Engineering team to look after, you’ll provide them with autonomy to be creative with their work, offering technical direction and architectural oversight where you can, helping them develop their skills and grow in capability whilst shaping further strategy of the team and products. The products are very much user-facing; there is a mobile app and a bespoke web app – every developer is able to deliver entire vertical features from databases, deployments, services and the front-end. React and React Native are used on the front-end, backed by a GraphQL API implemented with NodeJS with Postgres running on Kubernetes. The development team has a tendency towards functional style of programming (with pair programming) and focus on testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery.
