We’re looking for an experienced Colour Material and Finish expert to join the CMF design team for a global product and technology brand.

What you’ll be doing

As Global CMF Leader you will join the CMF design team and oversee projects from research, through design concept and into production across all product categories; this means working with a diverse range of materials and finishes including products in health, beauty, lighting, homecare and more.

This is a senior role and will form a core part of the design leadership team. You will work closely with other head of departments and VP’s to ensure product ranges are beautifully finished and hold up to the high standards of the brand. You’ll define the CMF strategy across all categories and collaborate with other departments to ensure strategy is aligned to commercial goals. Also setting and managing the budget for the CMF team.

Using your expertise in textiles, colour and materials you will provide valuable leadership to other CMF designers, offering critique, guidance and recommendations on cost and timing for projects when needed too.

As part of the leadership team you’ll be the voice for CMF within the business and will frequently present to the most senior directors in the business. When presenting you’ll clearly be able to explain the rationale behind colour, material and finish decisions well and have a good grasp of production and engineering processes too.  

What experience you’ll need

  • A relevant degree in Textile Design, Colour and Material Design, Product or Industrial Design (or similar).
  • A subject matter expert in CMF, with previous experience in CMF focussed roles.
  • Strong leadership qualities, able to set the standard for the team, mentor, manage and grow others.
  • Have in depth knowledge in production and engineering processes related to CMF.
  • A good understanding of supplier relationships and supply chain.
  • Previous hands-on design experience.
  • Great presentation skills, comfortable presenting to the most senior stakeholders in a business.

What you’ll be doing You’ll be joining a newly formed product team that will be the hub for product and user centred design thinking for the brand. Working closely with a Head of Product, several PO’s and a UI Designer you will champion the voice of the customer and help uplift the quality and usability for a range of digital services from onboarding, account management, payments, customer services and greenfield product areas in the future. Overall, the design maturity of the business is fairly low so this would suit someone that’s up for helping to shape something and doesn’t need strong hands on UX leadership from another senior or lead UX. You’ll have some upfront research to work with and a fantastic UI designer and product team to collaborate with but UX decisions and direction will be down to you. The brand has a long history in the business and good digital literacy overall but there’s the chance to have a big impact on things from day one. Skills wise this would suit someone who’s experience, and interest is in research and low fidelity design / prototyping rather than highly polished UI. UI skills won’t be sniffed at though as very useful to have when needed, it just won’t be your focus day to day and not a prerequisite. The team are quite open minded on level. You’ll need to come with commercial experience and be up for helping shape things. You’ll have a knowledgeable Product Manager as a mentor and experienced team around you but you will be the voice of UX, so if you’re less experienced you’ll need to be a bit of a self-starter.   What experience you’ll need   Previous experience in a UX role. Whether you call yourself a UX/UI designer, an Experience Designer, a UX consultant (or any other number of titles!) you’ll be passionate about qualitative research, prototyping and testing your work with users. Comfortable being the only UXer to begin with (though this might grow). Comfortable planning, running and synthesising your own research. Using whatever tools you’re comfortable with to create wireframes and low to mid fidelity prototypes.   Great communication skills. A portfolio that showcases relevant projects with how you’ve helped to improve digital products or services. UI design experience beneficial but not required. This role sits within the internal marketing agency and will produce a wide range of creative campaigns for the business. What you'll be doing Reporting into the Digital Creative Head you will work closely with a talented team of designers, copywriters and content strategists to deliver digital campaigns to a nationwide customer base. Embedded within the internal marketing agency and with a close relationship to data and analytics the Midweight Digital Creative will develop Global campaigns for nationwide market execution across web, digital advertising, social, CRM and retail. Working with a big name brand means well-defined guidelines but you will be expected to push both the creative and technical boundaries of digital campaign, knowing how to get the most out of the brand and always pushing for innovation. You'll need some knowledge or user centred design and UX best practice, a broad digital skillset, as well as a drive to develop and grow with a market leading brand. What experience you'll need to apply Prior experience in a digital design role. A portfolio full of digital design solutions including campaign work. Expert knowledge of integrated marketing and associated channels. Used to working at pace and on large scale campaigns. Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Motion graphics skills in After Effects desirable. Agency or fast paced in-house creative studio experience attractive. Strong stakeholder management experience, able to confidently communicate with people at all levels of a business.
