We’re looking for a talented Android Developer to join one of the UK’s most innovative technology businesses at their centre of excellence easily reached from Bristol (40 mins) and Swindon (20 mins).  Outgrown your current role and need to feel challenged in a truly positive, progressive and rewarding environment?  Want to do more within an Internet of Things (IoT) space in a business with an incredible lab/tech set-up and a global reputation for ingenuity?  If so, this is definitely the one for you.

What experience you’ll need

Joining their specialist team as Android Developer it’ll be expected that you’ll have some fantastic apps to show from commercial Android development with Java and Android Studio.  You will be familiar and keen to improve your skills within TDD / BDD development methodologies and have an understanding of writing automated unit and UI tests (e.g. Junit, Mockito & Calabash).  They’d like you to be familiar with Atlassian tools including JIRA, Bitbucket & Bamboo and have experience/awareness of Android build and release tools (e.g., Gradle, fastlane & HockeyApp).  They have a true Agile development set-up so it’s highly preferable that you’ll have worked in this way previously.  Beyond the technical, they’re keen to find highly passionate, creative innovators who like to work collaboratively and solve problems, never compromising quality for quick release; a high attention to detail and pride in your work.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for developing engaging and robust digital experiences to complement a suite of ground-breaking connected products (four new ones on the way in the next 3 years!).  The work will be challenging, varied, and will help bring the business further into the evolving world of IoT.   You’ll be interacting with teams including product developers, electronics engineers, embedded software engineers and Cloud developers to ensure their connected solutions are functional, secure and easy to use.   Working as part of a multi-disciplinary Connectivity Research Team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the next generation of connected products and technologies are properly explored, tested and refined.  Your software will need be interacting with hardware using a range of wireless technologies and visualises ‘big data’ for end users.  You’ll be able to contribute to system architecture and the over-arching development process.  It almost goes without saying that your thoughts and opinions will be hugely valued/encouraged and you’ll learn a lot from your seriously smart colleagues.
