Steve shares what it's like to train the consultants at ADLIB.

 

When I was a kid I wanted to become…

I always had my head in the clouds as a kid and the first time I flew I was hooked, I was going to be a pilot. I was always very active as a kid and often fund myself looking for the next exciting thing to come along. For my 18th birthday, I received a flying lesson and took to the skies in a Cessna from Coventry airport. I still remember on the way to the airport I was giving advice on (straight from the user manual) to my family and friends (and whoever would listen), seems I was keen to train from an early age.

For me, this is “what working at ADLIB” is all about:

ADLIB is all about the culture, the drive and the commitment to achieve and be recognised. Every consultant in the business is their own entrepreneur and given the tools and infinite support in getting them to where they want to be. ADLIB is an opportunity to achieve within an environment that works around you.

My biggest feel-good moment since I’ve been at ADLIB:

I was doing some deskside coaching with one of our consultants who was struggling to get in contact with key decision-makers in one of their target companies. After working through some communication methodology and engagement principals, not only did we make contact but we also received a number of job roles and a meeting request. I’ve never seen this consultant so happy; it was that sense of achievement in their eyes that made me happy!

How I explain what I do at a party:

Tricky question, it really is! most of the time people end up asking me to repeat or expand on my role. I often keep it simple, “I look after and train the business L&D portfolio which mainly focuses on providing our consultants with tools, knowledge and ideas to continue to be successful in the recruitment industry” – If I get that ‘blank’ look, I often respond with “I also train sales and communication skills to the recruitment industry”. By this point, I’m trying to turn the conversation away from work a related convo!

Beyond recruitment at ADLIB, I care about...

I’m a keen traveller and love to dive into the culture and atmosphere of the places I visit. I am currently working on an eternal recruitment training programme which we hope to be able to offer to the wider market in order to help others achieve and understand the real dynamics and opportunities in the sector.
