Establishing a Data Science function.

Client Overview: LV= is one of the UK’s largest personal insurers. They announced a partnership with the University of Bristol to establish a team of Data Scientists and Engineers, aiming to make advancements in Data Science by sharing knowledge, skills, and opportunities.

The Challenge

LV= needed to build a new Data Science function from the ground up. Key challenges included:

• Specialist skill sets – sourcing Data Engineers with the right technical expertise and soft skills to collaborate with the University of Bristol.
• Culture alignment – finding people who fit LV=’s ways of working and management style.
• Speed – growing the team quickly to meet project timelines.

Our Approach / Solution

We initially worked with Dr. Venura Perera as a candidate, placing him in his role at LV=. Soon after, he needed two additional hires to grow the team to three.

To support him, we:

• Took time to understand his management style and team requirements, creating a detailed brief of the ideal candidates.
• Tapped into our existing candidate pools and relationships to identify talent with the right mix of technical and interpersonal skills.
• Presented a shortlist of suitable candidates who could work seamlessly alongside the University of Bristol team.
