This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative, award-winning London-based Material Science company. They are leaders within their field and are entering an exciting phase of scale-up and commercialisation. Due to the natural growth of the business, they are looking for a Commercial Director to join the team.
 
What you will be doing?
 
The Commercial Director will lead the commercialisation of this clients biotechnologies with emphasis on licensing a range of products to key multinational players from various industries. This is an exciting opportunity to build and implement the current and future commercial strategy of the company, lead and close deals that are of high industrial, economic, environmental, and social significance, and grow the company’s leadership position and global presence.   • Develop and implement tailored and detailed go-to-market and/or licensing strategies to deliver their biotechnologies to global markets.
  • Lead the development and manage the execution of an overarching business development strategy that incorporates the go-to-market strategies for each biotechnology.
  • Develop and implement the growth strategies for their rapid scaling ambitions with the support of the board, operations team, and commercial team (direct reports).
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies and campaigns (including social media campaigns, hosting events, participating in industry talks, podcast and blog series, etc.) working closely with the Marketing Lead, to support the developed go-to-market strategies.
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing team, including a Business Development Lead, an Impact Lead, and a Marketing Lead. Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure the company is progressing through milestones and targets within its go-to-market and licensing strategies with regular reviews and progress updates being reported.
  • Work closely with the Impact Lead to measure and report on the environmental, social, and economic impact of our biotechnologies, both internally and externally. Use data-driven insights to demonstrate our positive contributions and ensure claims are objectively validated before being published or shared externally.
  • Constantly and consistently gather data about the performance of our licensing model and implement changes and improvements to evolve the model over time in order to accelerate the closing of license deals, create a more efficient and fulfilling client journey, better reflect the value we provide to clients, increase the size of deals and frequency of revenue generation, appeal to varying client and market needs, optimise processes, etc.
  • Lead negotiations for licensing and partnership deals with key industrial players and major multinationals.

What they are looking for?

  • At least 5 years of experience in senior B2B business development roles with large clients
  • Exceptional negotiation skills both in high-value, complex deals and straight-forward sales with excellent in-depth knowledge of Intellectual Property (IP) matters, impact assessment, marketing and branding, commercial needs of key industry players, and innovation commercialisation journeys and timescales
  • Proven experience in licensing negotiations with top-tier multinational clients
  • Proven experience in closing major licensing deals and managing their progression before and after closing
  • Proven senior leadership experience in business development, commercialisation, or a related field, ideally in the biotech sector
