I am looking for an Industrial Microbiologist to join an innovative company dedicated to advancing the circular bioeconomy. This role focuses on converting waste into high-performance materials through industrial microbiology, working closely with experts in engineering, chemistry, and material science to develop scalable bioprocesses and impactful solutions. This role is a 18 month FTC.

What You’ll Be Doing?

  • Engineering biological systems, including DNA, peptides, enzymes, and microorganisms.
  • Cultivating and characterizing bacteria, yeasts, and fungi.
  • Developing high-throughput techniques to optimize biological systems.
  • Measuring substrate use, metabolite formation, and microbial growth kinetics.
  • Optimizing media compositions and growth conditions for industrial applications.
  • Applying aseptic techniques and computational tools for bioprocess modeling.
  • Investigating enzyme kinetics and metabolic pathways for process optimization.
  • Designing and optimizing downstream processing for industrial scalability.
  • Utilizing Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs) for research documentation.
  • Conducting statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate biological systems into industrial applications.
  • Supporting regulatory compliance and contributing to intellectual property (IP) development.

What They Are Looking For?

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Systems Biology, Synthetic Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field with 3+ years of industry experience, or a PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Expertise in microbial culturing, bioprocessing, and fermentation technology.
  • Experience with enzyme kinetics, metabolic modeling, and substrate degradation.
  • Strong understanding of bioprocess scale-up and downstream processing.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, spectroscopy, and microscopy.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs) and high-throughput experimentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative research skills.
  • Highly collaborative, with strong communication and documentation skills.
