Local authorities are responsible for helping children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to get to and from school. Over the last few years, a combination of rising costs, increased demand, and budget cuts have led to increased pressures, with over 80% of local authorities exceeding their school transport budget. We’re working with a Bristol-based software company who have developed a solution to this problem and are on a mission to deliver positive change to society and the environment.

This innovative start-up has created a cloud-based transport planning tool that helps local authorities save money whilst ensuring a high quality of service for students and reduction in CO2 emissions. Having experienced exceptional growth and success across the UK market, they are looking to expand overseas so it’s an exciting time to join the business.
They’re looking for an IT Manager to join their growing team; this role would suit an experienced IT Manager with equivalent experience or someone with a strong background in infrastructure looking to take the next step in their career.

What you’ll be doing

Joining a small but growing team of 10, this is a varied and dynamic role that covers application and database server support, management of the internal infrastructure, information governance, data sharing coordination, IT security management; designing and implementing security policies and systems, and embedding best practice with a view to gaining ISO27001 accreditation. You’ll also be involved in system administration, software release management and GDPR compliance.

You’ll work across the business to monitor system performance, proposing new ideas and adopting the latest innovations in technology. You’ll need to be a clear communicator who takes pride in achieving business goals in a timely and professional manner and stays abreast of the latest technological advances.

The skills we’re looking for

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Microsoft server support and administration
  • Application server support, e.g. WildFly or similar
  • Knowledge and experience in IT security
  • Collaborative working and data sharing expertise, e.g. Teams
  • Microsoft 365 & Google Suite administration

 Any experience with the following will help you stand out but is my no means essential.

  • Software licensing expertise, e.g. LGPL
  • Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Zendesk, Jira
  • ISO27001 accreditation experience
  • Project management
  • Reporting, e.g., SSRS, Power BI, Tableau
