In line with increasing new business demands, the team are now looking to hire a Senior Consultant in the Policy team. This role will be a great fit for you if you are motivated by impactful work in the environmental policy sector, have a keen interest in sustainable resource use, and are a rigorous analyst. Operating at the forefront of environmental policy, you will support clients at all stages of policy development, from preliminary research through to policy design and evaluation.

What you’ll be doing:
As a Senior Consultant, you will play a key role in delivering consultancy contracts in the Policy workstream, including proposal writing, project management, and applying your technical expertise. Recent work in the UK has included circular economy policy, marine pollution, waste crime, and digital innovation in recycling systems. In addition, the team work on projects that cover extended producer responsibility, DRS, textiles, and global policy best practice. International work includes supporting governments of low- and middle-income countries to develop the evidence and strategies needed to tackle plastic waste.

Primary duties include:

  • UK/Devolved nation policy research and analysis: You will work with clients including government departments and public bodies, private sector, environmental NGOs, and other organisations with an interest in circular economy, resources and waste policy.
  • Project management: You’ll manage a range of projects, with the support of the project director. You will use project management software, being upskilled where required.
  • Client relationship management: You will maintain excellent relationships with clients, ensuring they are well-informed, engaged, and receive the value they seek.
  • Business development: You will develop and manage proposals for new work, supporting the Policy Lead.
  • Strategic planning: Working closely with the Policy Lead, you will help to shape the strategic direction of our consultancy work and its impact.
  • People management: You will have line management responsibilities, playing a role in training and mentoring junior colleagues. You will be supported to develop your skills in this area.

What experience you’ll need to apply:
The team are looking for a Senior Consultant who can demonstrate transferable skills in the duties listed above and their experience in a relevant policy area. It is highly desirable that the successful candidate has strong project management skills and a positive attitude to problem solving.

We’re keen to hear from you if you have:

  • A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience working within the environmental policy space.
  • Project management experience. You will have a track record of successfully managing and delivering projects on time and to budget. This could be for a consultancy, thinktank, government body, NGO or similar. Experience from academia is valued but would ideally include commercial consultancy experience.
  • Demonstrable subject knowledge related to at least two areas of circular economy/waste policy such as extended producer responsibility (EPR), deposit return schemes (DRS), reuse, eco-design, product passports, electronics, textiles, construction, plastics, packaging, waste crime, waste exports, marine litter, etc.
  • Confident quantitative analysis skills, ideally including data modelling. This could include experience in economic and/or environmental impact assessments, carbon modelling or similar forms of statistical analysis.
  • Qualitative analysis skills such as designing and conducting interviews, surveys, and writing literature reviews.
  • Excellent report writing skills are critical. Excellent communication skills, with experience producing reports and giving presentations to a range of audiences.
  • IT skills, particularly in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours a week) PERM role in the Glasgow or Bristol office, with a hybrid working option (ideally 2-3 days a week in the office, though more remote working options will be considered). This role includes a competitive base salary of up to £47k (dependent on experience) and:
