We’re really excited for the 2nd Tech Ethics Bristol event on Data Privacy, Protection and Personalisation. With Google and Apple making recent changes to try to gain further trust through data privacy, track & trace, COVID passports and apps, more and more data being handed over to both the government and everywhere we visit on a daily basis, there has never been a time where what happens to our data has been more on the forefront of everyone’s minds.

We are proud to have some Data Privacy & Protection gurus for our second event and we’re really excited to hear their thoughts on how these areas are developing and opinions on how businesses can benefit from this ethically.

J Cromack is Co-Founder of MyLife Digital. MyLife Digital’s mission is to be the category-defining company for Consent and Preference Management and make Privacy UX the norm for consumers across the world. MyLife Digital and DataGuard will work together as one team to protect the people behind the data.

DataGuard Consent (the platform developed by MyLife Digital) enables organisations to rebalance control of the personal data they hold on a consumer by surfacing the personal data held, the purposes it is being used and the value being generated from the data (for both the consumer and the organisation) at any point in the customer journey. A core component needed to build trust and loyalty with the consumer and to meet new regulatory obligations.

J is an advocate of ‘rethinking personal data to reinforce trust’ and the opportunities emerging from GDPR. J has been in demand as a speaker on the subject thanks to his pragmatic approach to data ethics, privacy and data protection and how organisations can embrace the new regulatory landscape to deliver greater value and build trust with their consumers. In 2020, J was awarded DataIQ’s Privacy and Trust Champion award and is recognised by DataIQ as one of the top 100 most influential people in data-driven businesses and the innovators who support them

Simon McDougall, Deputy Commissioner – Regulatory Innovation and Technology took up his position in October 2018. He is responsible for leading the work of the Technology Policy and Innovation Directorate, ensuring delivery of ICO strategic goals through stakeholder liaison, guidance, research and international activity. His work includes helping the ICO identify, understand and address emerging technologies with privacy implications, supporting the ICO’s innovation agenda, and making the ICO itself more ‘tech savvy’.

Prior to this appointment, Simon led a global privacy consulting practice at Promontory, an IBM company, leading projects across Europe, the US and Asia. He previously led a similar team for Deloitte in the UK.

Simon will be opening up the floor for you to ask him some questions about Data Privacy & Protection from the Regulator’s perspective.
