What you’ll be doing
This role is key in delivering Cygnus’s objectives on a global scale and provides the company the all-important Engineering support and product development.  In line with our values, the Mechanical Design Engineer will become a key link between production and engineering supporting existing products, as well as playing a key part in influencing new product development & product improvement.

Key responsibilities include:
Product Development & Improvement Support.

  • Provide Engineering support to design and development of ultrasonic measuring instruments.
  • Evaluate designs, physical testing, environmental testing.
  • Evaluate development & product concepts (DFMEA/FMEA).
  • Work with design subcontractors (CEM, Mechanical Design).
  • Undertake ISIR/FAIR on new parts (design dept.).
  • Coordinate new product testing and qualification.
  • Create 3D models & 2D CAD drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Assist in qualification of new designs.
  • Carryout prototyping for new product development.

 
Production Support

  • Engineering support to Production/Operations.
  • Maintain existing products (update drawings, solve issues, replace obsolete parts).
  • Support QA on existing and new products (update drawings, solve issues, replace obsolete parts).
  • Work with suppliers (manufacturers)
  • Updating ERP system (creating parts).
  • Create & maintain Work Instructions for Production.

 
What experience you’ll need

  • Relevant Mechanical or Industrial Engineering degree (or equivalent experience).
  • Good commercial experience in 2D & 3D CAD Design (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Able to forge relationships with teams including operations, engineering and servicing.
  • Materials knowledge.
  • Understanding of IQC & OQC.
  • 2D & 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Engineering Verification Test (EVT).
  • Experience of injection moulding would be useful.
  • Experience of pressure rated enclosures would be useful.
  • Hands on attitude.
