    Principal Scientist - Immunology

As a Principal Scientist - Immunology, they are looking for a passionate Drug Discovery expert with a strong background in cellular and molecular biology/immunology, cellular assay development, high throughput screening, and Flow Cytometry. The focus of the role will be to effectively direct and support a multidisciplinary team of highly experienced scientists to deliver Immune Cell Engager programs into the pipeline providing a strategic insight. What you’ll be doing: As a senior member of the team you will be responsible for planning, designing and directing complex phenotypic screening experiments involving multiple methodologies and input from multiple contributors to interrogate complex biology related to immune cell engagers. Working closely with the automation team you will plan strategy for future automation, constantly thinking of new ways to develop and advance our capabilities. You'll generate and analyse data to be used in the machine learning process, and give expert guidance, both to team members and other functions within the company. Your ability to distil complexity into concise communications will be put to use every day. You'll share your knowledge throughout the company and help to train others. You'll create materials for communication of data to internal and external clients. What skills you’ll will need to apply: You’ll have a strong scientific background and extensive experience in drug discovery and immune cell. You will be the subject matter expert on phenotypic screening and how it can be applied to accelerate drug discovery. You’ll have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with specialists from your own and other fields (e.g. automation engineers, NGS and data scientists). Proven record in antibody drug development and driving antibody therapeutics programs from early discovery into development stage. You are aware of the state of the art in laboratory automation with practical experience of running liquid handling robots. You are always looking to develop new ways of automating and standardising science. As an experienced mentor, you’ll have a track record of training more junior team members. Extensive experience developing high throughput biochemical and cellular assays including functional assays, binding assay, proliferation, and degradation. You’ll possess excellent communication skills and a strong network. You will bring significant experience of protein therapeutic discovery and development with a particular focus on single domain antibodies and multi-specifics. You will also be willing to think about better ways to solve complex protein engineering problems in this space. What you’ll be doing: Lead protein engineering efforts, designing the next generation of single domain and multi-specific drugs. Work hand-in-hand with data and wet lab scientists to design and deliver cutting edge protein engineering solutions. Liaise with partners in business development interactions and provide technical expertise to the design and execution of partner-led projects. Build on the progress already made and to help to shape ML capabilities for protein engineering. Coach and mentor members of the team in cutting edge protein engineering solutions. Advocate a drug discovery mindset in project design and execution, drive and maintain high standards for data generation. Be constantly on the lookout for the next advances in protein engineering and propose projects that will continuously improve our platform.  What skills you’ll will need to apply: Significant experience of therapeutic protein discovery - taking molecules from design to pre-clinical studies. You will have a deep technical background in protein engineering, exemplified by a high-impact publication record and presentations at conferences. Experience of working with single domain antibodies and multivalent therapeutics. In particular knowledge of protein engineering for oncology therapeutics. Experience of leading and developing teams in a matrix environment. Excellent communication skills – able to explain complex ideas to non-experts. A knowledge and understanding of the use of advanced in silico protein design methodology. Experience of lab automation and running experiments at high throughput.  Nice to haves You know how to work effectively within a startup organisation. This is an opportunity to join an exciting London based drug discovery innovator utilising machine learning to vastly improve the drug discovery process and produce more effective therapeutics worldwide. In line with growth, they are looking for a highly motivated molecular biologist driven by cutting-edge high throughput sequencing method development and execution. As part of the NGS team you will help to develop and run the sequencing workflows to establish genotype-phenotype links that we use for building machine learning models. You’ll work with their dynamic R&D teams to drive the discovery and development of protein therapeutics for unmet medical needs. Sequencing is core to their Platform, so you’ll ensure that they produce high-quality data, on time.What you’ll be doing: Contribute to drug discovery projects by using short- and long-read sequencing technologies to analyse biologics repertoires as part of the directed evolution platform. Investigate, develop & onboard newly implemented or standard sequencing workflows and experimental techniques. Assist in planning the expansion of their internal sequencing capabilities. Strive to improve data quality and throughput by optimising established workflows from sample input to read output. QC analyse, interpret, and troubleshoot NGS runs working closely with the R&D teams. Mentor and support the training of technical and non-expert colleagues in NGS technologies. Collaborate with our Display, Data Science, Bioinformatic and Automation experts to help design protein libraries and screening strategies. Keep excellent experimental/data records for cross functional teamwork and project learnings. What experience you will need to apply: A PhD in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or similar, or equivalent industry experience with significant expertise in NGS. The ability to generate and implement new ideas with excellent troubleshooting skills. Able to perform a wide range of molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, multiplex PCR and RT. You’re comfortable with challenging yourself and acquiring unfamiliar scientific skills and knowledge. You have excellent organisational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritise, define timelines and deliver to these commitments. Nice to have skills: Previously worked with production-scale Illumina systems (NextSeq and above), or with TGS systems from other manufacturers (PacBio, Oxford Nanopore, etc), preferably employing laboratory automation. Experience in generation and analysis of amplicon sequencing and/or RNAseq data in directed evolution workflows. Developing strategies for immune repertoire e.g., TCR sequencing. Familiar with open-source software, bioinformatics tools and languages such as Python. How you enjoy working: You’re comfortable with a rapid pace of work in a dynamic environment. You work to the highest standards with high attention to detail, data needs to be robust so that they can learn from it. You’re happiest working in a collaborative context.
