    Senior Software Engineer (React, Node/Scala)

Front-End leaning Software Engineers with full-stack JavaScript development experience needed for a hugely progressive, forward-thinking and continually growing company based in central Bristol. With a turnover of c£700m and 4 offices in Bristol & London, they were voted as being the top 20 of companies to work for in The Sunday Times!   What skills you'll need Proven background in an open source environment using things like NodeJS, React, React Native or TypeScript.  Significant cloud experience across AWS, GCP or Azure.  Demonstrable scripting & SQL experience. Configuration management, automation & containerisation (Docker & Kubernetes) knowledge. The "DevOps" culture of working.  Self-starting, ability to work autonomously whilst being adaptable to change.  Interest in functional programming (Scala, Clojure, Elixir etc.). Any commercial experience would be useful but not essential! Extensive knowledge of operating in a highly Agile environment is essential. What you'll be doing   Joining a highly Agile environment with continuous release & deployments, you'll offer a passion for developing forward-thinking products, taking ownership of projects from inception through to continuous improvement. It's expected that you will work in teams (sometimes using pair programming) to build resilient and scalable solutions, taking TDD and continuous delivery into account and advocating Agile practice across the business. This role is full-stack but more leaning towards the front-end (React); there's a lot of scripting involved and you will need to be comfortable with SQL. You'll be contributing to a multitude of systems so technology agnosticism is essential. As a Technical Architect you will play a crucial role in the success of their digital transformation in a role which offers plenty of variety & exposure to a broad range of progressive technologies. What skills you’ll need Proven background in a hands-on development capacity preferably on the .Net technology stack. Broad range of understanding across multiple technology ecosystems such as Java, as well as keeping up with the latest technical trends. Proven exposure to cloud platforms, preferably Azure. Knowledge of cloud-based data warehouses & data platforms is desirable.   Awareness of the DevOps culture of working with an understanding of CI/CD, automation & configuration tools would be a bonus. Certification in an Enterprise Architect Framework such as TOGAF would be beneficial. Ability to work in a highly Agile environment. What you’ll be doing Reporting in to the CTO you will be responsible for developing the businesses’ overarching technology strategy central to their digital offering. You will lead build vs design decisions on applications and platforms and use your technical expertise in the selection of appropriate frameworks and languages. You will be focused on managing and maintaining an architectural roadmap across all systems and provide technical leadership to steer technical decisions in order to support the successful implementation and integration of digital solutions. You will have a wide knowledge of established and emerging technologies and will be an advocate of modern software engineering practices such as DevOps & CI/CD, continuously exploring new and improved ways of working. Flexible working, R&D led business, on-site parking, gym & café. An award-winning software house is looking for a Technical Architect to join them in their Bristol or Chippenham offices. They work with some of the largest technology businesses in the world across some seriously exciting sectors such as environment, space, government, marine and robotics & AI. As a Technical Architect you will be contributing to a range of projects from from applications used for planetary exploration, navigation software used by the RNLI & naval fleets, or newsroom & media management systems. You will be on hand to provide technical expertise to team members and customers, occasionally travelling to client site to offer support and see your work first hand. What skills you’ll need Experience designing & implementing large-scale applications or web solutions. Previous experience of software development, preferably with Java. Understanding of design and modelling techniques such as UML. Familiarity with web application development, integration and testing such as JSF, Spring. An understanding of software standards like ISO9001 & ISO 20000:1. Strong knowledge of multi-tier client-server architecture. An understanding of security policies, virtualisation strategies & sub-capacity licensing would be a bonus. Knowledge of middleware architectures (i.e. ESB & SOA) and enterprise databases such as SQL-Server & Oracle would be highly desirable. An understanding of project management, Quality Assurance or cloud hosting models would also be beneficial. What you’ll be doing As a Technical Architect you will contribute to a variety of exciting new and existing projects, providing direction and leadership to all aspects of application architecture, infrastructure and application design. You will take full responsibility of the overall system architecture, eliciting business requirements and selecting the appropriate design standards, methods and tools to ensure technical solutions are deliverable against business needs. You will be able to effectively estimate the cost and implementation timescales for certain IT solutions, including the potential impact these will have on customers, such as licensing costs, the phasing out of legacy systems and training etc., to guide the selection of solutions for specific projects. Further, you will contribute to bids and pre-sales support, providing your technical expertise to team members and customers, occasionally visiting customer site to offer support and see the real world application of your work.
