    Technical Operations Engineer

    — Get your SC Clearance!

    Big focus on R&D.  Diverse team and projects.  Annual bonus, awesome benefits, very busy due to success!  I’m looking for an Operations Engineer to join a tech company who provide a range of public sector clients with research, tech and products surrounding cyber and comms security. They’re based in Gloucestershire, initially full remote but will be more office-based when restrictions lift. Due to the nature of the project work you’ll need to be eligible for SC Clearance.  What skills you’ll need Proven background in a technical operations environment. Extensive knowledge of Linux OS and infrastructure, either hosted or cloud-based. Windows is a bonus.  Experience with infrastructure security and monitoring, any CyberSec knowledge useful.  Scripting skills (Python, Bash etc.).  Understanding of networking principles, DNS, troubleshooting in production.  Any knowledge of the following would be handy: ELK stack, VMware, SIEM, Atlassian, Nagios etc.  Any deployment automation tools like Ansible would be beneficial, but not essential.  ITIL certification desirable.  What you’ll be doing Joining a small managed services team with growth planned due to increased project work, you’ll involve yourself in monitoring production infrastructure for faults, creating/managing security alerts, incident management and managing release/deployments. They use Nagios for monitoring and there are bits of high-level service desk work involved. You’ll also help with provisioning new end-user devices, automation strategies and initiatives for improvements across the team. The team itself is 5 people, two in service desk, two in operations and a manager that you’ll report into. A central authority for clear and concise information, they offer unrivalled breadth, scope and depth of data, bridging the gap between the crypto asset and traditional financial markets.What you'll be doing:As a part of their API team, you will be responsible for the upkeep and further development of the core APIs, which currently serve around 30 million calls per hour to an average of 1.5 million hourly unique users. With the team being small, the successful candidate will be hands on throughout the end-to-end delivery of updates and new features, being able to directly see the value added to users, and the company, from the features they create. Their API is a core company product generating revenue that they are actively pushing further through increased data quality and features, which also provides opportunities to liaise very closely with their customers.What experience you'll need to apply: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years in back-end service/API development.     Exciting 3-month contract role working on a Greenfield project at a bio-tech.  Remote (with occasional visits to London).  Outside IR35 role.  My client are looking for a senior operations engineer for a 3 month contract to help bring their cloud ecosystem into the infrastructure-as-code future. The have an interesting eco-system of wet-lab robotics, machine learning, and software tools, and their goal is to be able to work with all of it via unified continuous deployment flows. They have just begun their ops journey and this is an exciting contract to help to build them a foundation that they can grow with. What you'll be doing: You will be reponsible for the design and rollout our first implementations of IaC and CI/CD for the IaC’d parts of the infrastructure. You will help to bring the existing engineering team up to speed on IaC techniques. You will help bootstrap hardware virtualization and VM CI/CD for their wet-lab robotics platform. You will ensure they have a good baseline for backups, log centralization, and disaster recovery planning. What experience you will need to apply: 7 years experience as an operations engineer with experience in technical leadership positions. Experience with: GCP, Terraform, and Kubernetes. Modern CI/CD pipelines and gitops workflows (e.g. Concourse). Development and scripting in python 3 and bash. Production VMware vSphere & Windows image builds and NAS management.
