      Work to optimise and develop new solutions for BSF rearing and breeding. Join an entomology start-up, using BSF to recycle nutrients in the food chain. Attend events and represent the company on a variety of professional settings within the BSF community. Work at the intersection between the Biology and Production teams, acting as the key reference point on all BSF biology-related enquiries related to rearing and breeding. Your role will include developing new solutions to current and future challenges, working on rearing scale-up plans. What you’ll be doing:   Working to explore the biology of BSF and looking to grow seedstock breeding centres. You will be in charge of overseeing critical BSF biology aspects in a multidisciplinary team tasked with improving the efficiency of existing operations and processes. Working alongside the Biology and Production teams to support centralised breeding and decentralised rearing scale-up plans. This role will include running trials, optimising specific breeding stage operations, and developing new solutions to current and future challenges. Work with a diverse team to deliver commercial-scale breeding centres and decentralised bioconversion fleets across the UK and internationally.   What experience you’ll need to apply: Prior industrial experience in BSF rearing and/or breeding is essential. Scale-up of production over time, for both larvae (rearing) and eggs (breeding). Active participation in BSF scale-up decision making. Proven ability to run complex and long-term biological experiments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience managing datasets and making decisions based on available data. Contributing to the writing and updating company SOP (Standing Operating Procedures) What experience you’ll need to apply: A degree in a relevant subject, such as Biology, Plant Science, or Botany. Alternatively, you will have relevant experience within the horticultural, crop, or agronomy sector, such as a grower or crop background. Experience working with plants, in either an analysis, data collection, growth, cultivation, and/or processing capacity. Looking for an experienced Crop Scientist with specific knowledge of UK agronomy, cereal crops and agriculture inputs (chemical or otherwise). What you’ll be doing The successful candidate will be working as the lead Crop Scientist, providing advice to farmers and agronomists on different aspects of cereal crop care. This includes the identification of pests, disease, invasive species, nutrient deficiency, and more. Via remote sensing, fields are mapped, and potential yield is determined. You would be working to provide actionable intelligence to farmers to ultimately ensure that yield is maximised whilst reducing chemical input requirements. The role is fully remote and so would involve work with clients across the UK. What experience you’ll need to apply PhD in a relevant subject, such as crop disease, crop science, arable farming, or specific crop species/ailments/inputs. Cereal grains, grasses or common UK crop weeds/ailments would be preferable. Experience in coding and statistics – A deep understanding of statics, with experience in Generalized Estimation Equations (CEE), Python, or JavaScript. Additional statistical programs would also be of interest. Coding skills would be advantageous but are not essential. It would be desirable for the ideal candidate to have a proven track record of working within crop diagnostics, crop/plant mapping, or working within the crop science sector. Field Experience working as part of a team, being comfortable to work fully remote. It would be desirable for the ideal candidate to be confident in their ability to ultimately grow a team of crop scientists. What you’ll be doing Managing a small but growing team with a flat management structure and based within a lab. You would be working collaboratively to create sustainable solutions through organic chemistry methods. You would also be working to commercialise these new biopolymer technologies. What experience you’ll need to apply   A technical background in cellulose, biopolymer chemistry, chemical process engineering, or natural chemical processes, such as naturally occurring polymers or polysaccharides. This could be within an R&D, commercialisation and/or technical capacity. You will have experience in project or team management, with a proven record of successfully guiding a team to a positive result. This would include proof of prioritising and allocating resources. You will have excellent written and verbal English, being a confident communicator who would be comfortable dealing with customers, suppliers, and project partners. You will have great interpersonal skills and enjoy working with different team members and project partners. You will be open to collaboration, including sharing your ideas and thinking creatively to solve an issue without an existing solution. The role would be focused on the commercialisation of a new technology. In addition to this, the successful candidate would be managing a diverse team of chemists, engineers, and technicians in a fast-paced environment. You would be working within the scaling, process optimisation, production, and customisation of cellulose beads. The ideal candidate will be highly creative when addressing technical challenges related to product development from invention to commercialisation. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in an unstructured environment where every day is different and brings new challenges and opportunities. You will also be flexible and comfortably able to manage changing priorities. You will enjoy working in a flat team structure, where everyone contributes to the best of their knowledge and expertise with a focus on making the business a success. PhD qualified within a similar subject field. Evidence of excellent problem-solving capabilities and analytical skills. Potential to manage a small team, manage complex workstreams and excellent interpersonal skills. Any plasmid, gene transfer, recombineering, genome evolution, transposon or phage biology would be a bonus. Additionally, understanding of the food value chain Farm to Fork would also be desirable but not essential.
